When to Report Spam to MAPS
At MAPS we probably get more spam than almost anybody, since in addition to the considerable load of direct spam (that is, unsolicited bulk email sent to us by unethical advertisers), we also get a very large amount of indirect spam -- spam that someone else received and then forwarded to us thinking that we would want to see it. We get so much direct spam, that we tend to delete the indirect spam without taking any action at all.

As an end-user, you need to first try and work with your ISP or network provider to report and resolve any problems you are having with spam. There are also several websites that can assist you in identifying and reporting spam to the appropriate entities. We recommend abuse.net ( http://www.abuse.net/) and spam.abuse.net (http://spam.abuse.net/userhelp/). Only after you have exhausted all other avenues should you report your spam problems to MAPS.

How to Nominate a Spammer to MAPS
If you would like to nominate a spam source to one of MAPS' lists, we will need some detailed information from you. You will need to determine on which list the IP addresses included.

It begins with a well-researched report about the spam you are receiving. We have developed a comprehensive set of Guidelines for Reporting Email Abuse, to assist you in gathering and reporting the necessary information to nominate a spammer to one of our lists. While this is a time-intensive process and the majority of the work is up to you, the end result is less spam for everyone. After you have reviewed the guidelines, please see the section specific to the list you wish to nominate an IP address:
